THE ROLE OF AN ECONOMIST in quantifying damages

When the injury is a permanent impairment that will affect the work life and quality of life of the client the role of the economist becomes a great one. Many has been the time that an economic evaluation of the impact of a permanent injury on the life expectancy and earnings of a client has been instrumental in settling the case for the proper amount.

The calculation of the value of an injury includes at a minimum the following:
the health history of the client; the medical bills incurred in treating the subject injury; the opinion of a medical/healthcare professional; the amount of money the client makes, the opinion of an economist; whether retraining might help the client; and the degree of negligence that brought about the injury in the first place.
